I'm not sure this really counts as a proper getaway, as I was barely gone for 24 hours and did no adventuring around the city. I left Athens, but I failed at taking photos.

I'd not been to Patra in five years and it hadn't left me with the best impression. But, one of my favourite bands, Still Corners were doing three dates in Greece, I made it to one in Athens (obviously) and the one in Patra. If only the Thessaloniki date had been on the weekend!

Although the summer holiday I had in the UK was surprisingly warm and sunshiny, the need to have a short getaway in Greece while it's still summer had to happen. The Boyfriend and I decided to venture somewhere near(ish)by, opting for a base in Porto Heli with a couple of day trips.

For as long as I can remember, I've always wanted to visit Olympia. I'd been close in the past, but no cigar. So when The Metamour offered up a getaway to her family village just a short drive away, we didn't hesitate to say yes!

It had been quite some time since I'd last had the chance to go camping, aside from the previous two trips to Evia, which almost don't count as camping, since there's running water, a kitchen, a bed and a roof overhead. Sleeping under the stars makes all the difference.

One of the things I'd missed the most with the cafe was the ability to just spontaneously decide to go somewhere. So, on Friday, The Boyfriend and I did just that and headed down to Nafplio for the day.

It was a nice, easy way to get out of Athens and I expect the trip will be repeated again soon.

There are many things I could say about my first trip to the Ionian island of Kefalonia, but the most important point is that it definitely won't be my last! The Boyfriend and I loved it so much that it's moved to our second favourite destination after Zagorohoria, we'd happily have a home there.

Day One: Wine roads and sunset by the lake.
Day Two: Lake Doxa and the State of Staikos.
Day Three: Abandoned monasteries and near-death experiences.

The holiday down south was fabulous, even though there was no beach in sight (and in August too, while the average Greek is off island hopping). The only problem - I'm already wanderlusting again...
